This fall and winter, we will be reading John Nichols' recent book The "S" Word: A short history of an American Tradition... SOCIALISM, a history of socialist thinking, action, and influence in the United States of America, billed by the publisher as "a short, sharp, irreverent rejoinder to right-wing red-baiting".
For more information on the book, including reviews and a blog, see the the publisher's page at Verso Books. You can buy a copy at Amazon, or Powell's.
Meetings, unless otherwise announced, will be held at Andala Coffee House, 286 Franklin St., in Cambridge's Central Square. T access is by the Red Line Central Sq. stop, or various bus routes (including No. 1 and No. 70 - see this link). Parking may be available on the street (resident restrictions do not apply on Sunday) - or relatively inexpensive parking (by Greater Boston standards) can be had at the "socialist" Green Street Garage (owned by the City of Cambridge). Specific info on future meetings will be given below, and on the Boston DSA calendar.
Proposed reading schedule is below. We are keeping it fairly light, because some participants are in graduate school, and don't have a lot of time for "optional" readings; if the pace seems to easy as we get into it, however, the group can decide to speed it up.
